Saanroo’s OEA Ingredient Trpti Supports Body’s Incretin Response: Study

Compared to placebo, those who took the supplement saw significant changes in post-meal GLP-1 and GIP, and consumed significantly less of a standardized meal.

A bioavailable oleoylethanolamide (OEA) ingredient marketed by Saanroo as Trpti was shown to support the body’s natural incretin response, suggesting potential metabolic health and weight management benefits, in a single-blind, placebo-controlled, three-period crossover study involving 37 adults with a BMI of 25-34.9. The findings were published in Frontiers in Endocrinology.

Volunteers each received a placebo, 150 mg of Trpti, or 300 mg of Trpti, following an overnight fast. Blood samples were collected over 8 hours with standardized meals provided at 15 minutes and 4 hours post-dose. The researchers analyzed time-course responses of GLP-1, GIP, DPP-4, insulin, glucose, and glucagon.

Key Findings

A single 300 mg dose of Trpti significantly increased post-meal GLP-1 and GIP responses in overweight adults compared to placebo. The effect was observed within 15 minutes of ingestion and again during the subsequent meal.

Significant changes in circulating DPP-4 concentration were observed at later time points. DPP-4 is an enzyme that degrades incretin hormones such as GLP-1 and GIP. By inhibiting DPP-4, Trpti may prevent the degradation of the two incretin hormones, the authors posited.

Participants who received Trpti consumed significantly less of a standardized meal compared to those who received a placebo, and the supplement was well-tolerated with safety markers remaining in normal ranges.

The authors concluded that a single 300 mg dose of the OEA supplement enhanced post-meal GLP-1 and GIP responses, warranting further investigation into its role in nutritional strategies targeting metabolic health.

A prior clinical study on Trpti evaluated the ingredient over a 12-week treatment period. Compared to placebo, the supplement significantly increased the abundance of Akkermansia muciniphila and Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, two beneficial bacterial species associated with gut and metabolic health. The study demonstrated statistically significant weight reduction in participants with a BMI below 35 compared to placebo, while supporting gut barrier integrity and healthy immune signaling.

Together, the studies suggest that Trpti supports healthy weight management through pathways related to appetite regulation, gut microbiome health, gut barrier function, and the body’s natural incretin response.
